21 Aug Support legislation to reduce food waste

FoodForward SA is an organisation that drives food banks. Essentially, they collect edible surplus food from manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, and then redistribute this food to verified NPOs that collectively feed thousands of hungry people daily. In conjunction with Werksmans Attorneys and the CSIR, they have written a draft bill and discussion paper to advocate for legislation that will limit food waste by increasing donations in order to feed the hungry.

To date, the DTI has not responded to their requests to review the proposed bill. These organisations have thus turned to their partners in the industry to circulate the draft bill and discussion paper to help lobby for the proposed legislation. Werksmans believes that if introduced as a Bill in Parliament, it will be voted into law because everyone stands to benefit. We thus invite you to engage with the document and share it with your networks as to reach the correct individuals in Parliament who can drive it forward. The Southern Africa Food Lab wholeheartedly supports this initiative.
